Levi van der Vlies
My name is Levi van der Vlies, and I am the Vice President of the XXIXth Board of the Financial Study Association Rotterdam (FSR). I studied International Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where I was introduced to a broad range of business disciplines. Finance particularly interested me, and I wanted to explore what working in this field could look like beyond the courses I followed.
A board year at FSR appealed to me because it combines that opportunity with the responsibility of running an association together with five other students. It allows me to meet people from different professional backgrounds, work on projects from start to finish and discover where my own interests lie. The combination of professional activities and the social side of the association made me enthusiastic about becoming part of the board.
“At FSR, I get to explore my own interests while helping other students discover theirs.”
As Vice President, I am responsible for our communication with members and the marketing of FSR and its events. This includes creating promotional materials, coordinating campaigns and making sure students know which opportunities are available to them. With activities covering several fields, the challenge is to communicate what makes each event relevant and help students find something that suits their interests.
I also manage our website and use data to understand how students find and engage with FSR. By looking at the results of our promotional efforts, I can assess what works and where we can improve. I enjoy the combination of creating something and then seeing how people respond to it.
Alongside these responsibilities, I am involved in organising Dealmakers, the M&A Days, the Private Equity Days and the International Research Project 2027. These events give me the opportunity to work closely with companies and learn more about corporate finance, private equity and consultancy. There is a lot involved in turning an initial idea into an event, and seeing students leave with new insights or a clearer idea of their next step makes that work rewarding.
What I also value about this year is working closely with the rest of the board and getting to know our members and committee members. Between the events, office days and drinks, there are plenty of opportunities to build friendships and enjoy everything that comes with being part of FSR.
