Noah van Roekel
My name is Noah van Roekel, I am the President of the XXIInd board of the Financial Study association Rotterdam. I started my studies in Rotterdam three years ago with the bachelor Economics and Business Economics. It was clear for me that I wanted to study economics since first grade and I finished my bachelor last year. Next year I will do the master Financial Economics at the Erasmus School of Economics.
In my three years I had the opportunity to do many things, including playing rugby at the Rotterdam Student Rugby Club and joining a startup to become a manager of one of the fastest growing Dutch companies of that year. In my three years I also had the possibility to do a committee at the RSRC, the bar committee.
My experiences thus far have taught me a lot about organizing events and communicating with different parties. My interest for a board year developed at the later phases of my bachelor. After coming back from my exchange to Norway, I wanted to take a year of studying to orientate on my future career. The professional character, the prestigious partners and the extensive network of the FSR appealed to me the most. We work closely with the largest parties in Finance and the expectations of our partners are high. During the year it is also of great importance to work closely with your fellow board members and active members. We, the board, will also go abroad a few times during the year and we will have many more exciting activities. The experience of a board year will definitely help a lot in your further career.
My main priority this year will be the board itself. It is vital that the board functions properly and it is my job, as president, to ensure this. The most important part in this is proper communication and an open culture wherein I can get everybody on the same page. On the other hand, I advise my fellow board members on how to approach certain situations or which decisions to make. This allows me to be involved with many of our events, learning from difficult choices and situations. Besides the board I am responsible for the long-term strategy of the FSR and exploration of new opportunities. Furthermore, as president I am offered the opportunity to represent the FSR on many different occasions, both in- and outside the university. It is a challenging opportunity to be responsible for the largest independent study association of the Erasmus University, with around 3000 members and an extensive professional network.
If you have any further questions about a board year or the FSR in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me or drop by our office at H16-25.
