Meet former committee member - Minousch Meijboom
Former Career Committee member: Minousch Meijboom
Study: MSc Accounting & Financial Management + MSc Corporate Law
Current occupation: M&A intern at AKD
FSR Committee: Career Committee
What inspired you to become an active member of the FSR?
I was already familiar with FSR during my bachelor's degree because of the events that FSR organized, but I became inspired to become an active member during the introduction days of my master's degree which were organized by FSR. I wanted to get involved in the association since I thought it would be a nice addition to my study and of course the active members activities also played a role.
Why did you specifically choose the Career Committee? What did you find most challenging about your role, and what did you enjoy the most?
I specifically chose the Career Committee because of its flexibility, the possibility to write articles on interesting finance and consulting topics of our own choice and the possibility to think creatively. A part of the committee is the promotion of the Financial Career Platform and I think it could sometimes be challenging to think outside of the box to create a long term promotion strategy for the platform. What I enjoyed most was writing finance articles and creating promotion for the socials.
How do you reflect on your time with the FSR? Are there any skills or insights you gained that you still apply today?
I look back at my time with FSR very positively! I learned a lot in working together with my committee members and the possibility to interview interesting professionals provided me with valuable insights that I can use in my career. Also, I found it valuable to interact with a lot of persons that are interested in the financial sector, here all about their career plans and share experiences.
What is your favorite memory from your time as an FSR committee member?
My favorite memory definitely is the active members weekend, where we spent a weekend in Poland with all active members.
Can you tell us a bit about what you're currently doing?
I just completed my master's degrees in Corporate Law and Accounting & Financial Management, so at this moment and in the upcoming period I am doing some M&A internships at several law firms to explore possible future career steps.
Did FSR play a role in your current occupation?
Yes, throughout the year I learned a lot about finance topics in general which I think is helpful in my current occupation. Also, through FSR I got informed on the many different fields within finance and consulting which eventually emphasized my interest in M&A.
If you could go back, is there anything you would do differently during your time with the FSR?
If I could go back I would not specifically do anything differently but if I have to pick something, I would attend more FSR events to get to know more finance companies and explore fields within finance.
What advice would you give to current FSR members or those considering joining a committee?
I would encourage FSR members to attend FSR events since it is such a good way to explore fields within finance, get to know finance companies and maybe even get an internship. For those considering joining a committee, I could recommend anyone to join one so definitely go for it! It's a chance to organize a big event or, for example, be responsible for the Financial Career Platform and the active members activities are a nice extra!
